I have an interest in Dengue Fever, as my wife caught it 20+ years ago during our travels and this has restricted our movements to certain countries since. Officially, Dengue is a virus. However, research has been carried out that shows mosquitos do not act as a vector for viruses. Also, according to 'science', viruses do not spread between species, and yet apes and monkeys can both be infected by Aedes Aegypti mosquitos, which spread not only Dengue but Yellow Fever, Zika and Chikungunya. I'm therefore inclined to believe it must be a form of parasite, but one that is very small. I also think it likely that YF is the original and the others were engineered from it. Gain-of-function on a parasite is a far different proposition than the same carried out on a virus (which may or may not exist).
Finally, a look through the manifest of what the Russians have discovered in Ukrainian biolabs reveals that Aedes Aegypti is always present, along with the viruses it carries.
