Okay, let’s start way back at the beginning.
Back in the days of Pharaohs and Warlords.
First you have tribes.
Tribes get big and then a chief just doesn’t cut it. You need to divide things up and spread out because too many people living in the same place will fight one another over petty things as soon as the mammoths, sheep, or whatever start to dwindle.
People spread out but form pact and alliances so they aren’t constantly fighting over hunting grounds. Turf wars are abated under the power the most superior tribe that managed to secure better natural resources in their home territory.
When those resources advance sufficiently, they begin to farm.
When they farm, you get lesser tribes joining in and sparking up satellite communities which feed resources to the primary. On and on and on.
I’m sure you know all this. It’s just the historical rise of the Agrarian Era.
Why is this relevant?
Because at some point the big guy in charge needs to be able to issue orders to his underlings without fear of his couriers getting his instructions messed up. That, among many other reasons, encourages a collective of tribes to create a central language — with both a verbal and written standard. Standardizing the language permits far-off parts of the national tribe to communicate.
Again, this is general knowledge.
How has this all developed, though?
How does this play into our modern Comms system?
Birth of a Language
First, only the King, his advisors, and his couriers will be permitted to learn the language. Everything else falls away in importance as compared to what they must to for the society to function. Part of that is record keeping. The King needs records of what happened with whom in order to recall past treaties with his adversaries as well as pass on his lineage and his legacy of works to his successors, so they can operate with a comprehensive history of events and agreements with other nations.
Naturally, we have situations where the lower caste needs to be instructed on how to live and what laws to follow. This also need to be written down and disseminated in some way. Town callers/criers and the like will instruct the illiterate, so long as they are given some written tablet or tapestry which can be referred to as a sign of the King’s authority. Basically, so no one can slander the King’s word. Ironically, those written laws are mystified and blend into the religious practices of the nation and become indistinguishable from a “Divine Edict.” This also informs the King’s “Divine Rite” to rule, as generations of Kings point towards tradition to justify their supreme authority.
“Why is this a law?”
“Because the King was told it by God!”
This is typically how it plays out for a good long while. Kings give orders to advisors, usually the clergy, which give orders to the military peacekeepers, peacekeepers give orders to town criers, and criers give orders to the serfdom.
Then comes the economy.
As with all things, as the nation grows it accumulates wealth. That wealth permits the advisors and their offspring to live almost as comfortably as the King, as retainers. Competition ensues, as they each vie for a portion of the King’s favor, his grace. Soon the advisors children gain access to the written word and set off on their own ventures that they might accumulate personal wealth as they serve the King’s interests. When these interests coincide with the accumulation of foreign goods, you then have the creation of an aristocratic class and a mercantile class — who each seek to trade exotics in exchange for a bit of the nation’s wealth and establish familial proximity to the King. The more useful and resourceful an aristocrat is, the more likely the King will be to give them more power, authority, and responsibilities, along with additional wealth.
As a recap, we now have a system that includes the following:
King (Might Makes Right)
Church (Advisors to the King and Enforcers of Tradition)
Aristocracy (Children of the King’s Family, Military, and Church)
Mercantile (Resourceful Tradesmen with Foreign Contacts)
Serfdom (Farmers, Workers, Miners, and Foragers)
See how it shakes out?
Which among these are most likely to need reading and writing on a daily basis?
Sorta works from the top down right?
Now, about the merchants and their rise.
In order to trade effectively, merchants must learn the “language” of the aristocrats. Not just the spoken and written language of the land, but things such as accounting, deal-making, and any other such nuances specific to the hoity-toity aristocracy.
Once the merchants acquire sufficient knowledge of this, lesser merchants will also be required to learn it to stay competitive. Eventually, the written word extends into the world of the serfdom.
THAT is when things get difficult.
THAT is when the ones in charge can no longer safely converse by means of paper and pen and must seek to once again find alternative means with which to enjoy the luxury of the serfdom being left ignorant and reliant upon the word of those above them rather than being able to read instructions for themselves.
At the very least, it’s so merchants and aristocrats can deal in secret without fear of a competitor easing in on their pursuits right out from under them.
Ultimately though, an illiterate lower class allows the fledgling middle classes to slander the King and occasionally alter his message for their own personal gain. All with the goal of eventually acquiring more collective wealth than the King and deposing him in some way.
Can’t do that if the serfdom is literate.
So, in order to undermine the authority of the King, the nation’s church, aristocracy, and mercantile classes will collude (a Cabal, essentially) to gatekeep the serfdom and keep them from knowing how to read and write. When that fails, the next alternative must be pursued…
Cryptographic Systems
They need to scramble their messages. Once the King can seamlessly issue edicts to a sufficiently learned population, those who wish to sap his power and retain it for themselves must get clever. They need to be able to talk and conspire in such a way that both the King and his loyal subjects will not be privy to their underhanded tactics. Questions of succession within the aristocracy only further fuel this Game of Thrones.
Eventually a King will be short on heirs. Sometimes that eventuality can be forced through unsavory means… Once that happens, the throne is up for grabs. Only the most ruthless and cunning of the aristocracy will be poised to usurp the throne, mind you. I should clarify, however, that cunning does not denote intelligence. You must be cunning to successfully rob a noble. You are also stupid to accept that unnecessary risk. Should you be caught, you will be severely punished. Only the desperate and foolish expend all their intellectual energies towards a grand theft when they could spend that time and energy on more fruitful endeavors. You could either plant a vineyard that lasts the rest of your life as well as your descendants or you could take a chance and rob a noble with the hope it doesn’t end tragically for you.
Which is the smart decision?
A thief who wishes to make robbery his profession will eventually find that his luck will run out, and unlike a bad harvest for the vintner, it becomes rather difficult to thieve once branded as such and your sticky digits removed.
All that said, eventually the cunning dumb enough to try will get inventive. They’ll put their energies towards subverting their liege in ways that can fool and even bewitch the authorities stationed above them.
That’s when we get various cryptographic systems…
Cryptographic systems which allow one to send messages without the Law man cracking down on your operations. First it’s to subvert the King, as the works of spies and traitors, but eventually it trickles down into all such ventures intended to disenfranchise the common man. At that point, when cryptography is aimed towards the serfdom, we enter into a new age.
That’s when the King is eventually deposed by one who knows the nature of hidden messages. Then, to solidify and retain power they establish and enshrine their clandestine orders into the common fold of governance.
That’s when Secret Societies become mainstream.
Once relegated to the queer little schoolhouses and parlors of the aristocracy, now turned into full-fledges places of worshipping all that is both Tyrannical and Subversive. Their doors are still closed while they meet, but their places of worship are no longer kept away in obscurity; they are no longer shy about meeting or flaunting their supremacy over the general social order.
The King’s Throne, no longer is a thing of Divine Rite, is instead a thing of collusive subterfuge. Now coined “Our Democracy.” God no longer chooses who will rule — instead it is the Mercantile Aristocracy and their secret orders, the Special Interest Groups, who decide whose turn it is to sit on the Throne. For all intents and purposes, they become the nation’s hidden deity, using an invisible hand to guide and provoke the populous into serving their own selfish Special Interests.
It takes effort to maintain this “World Order.”
The Law of Diminishing Return eventually rears its ugly head…
Over time, and once the serfdom effectively learns to read and write, the powers that be will ultimately be required to “level up” and establish yet another language system far more complex than the, now, common one. This must come to pass in order to fortify the system of widespread ignorance that has enabled them to exploit the “ignorant masses” for all these centuries.
They want to rule over people with a “hidden” knowledge. They want to be able to gatekeep the rabble. This is most effectively achieved when the sheep cannot understand what the shepherds and wolves alike are saying.
So, as serfdom naturally acquires literacy, the aristocracy naturally acquires cryptographic systems to once again retain their malleable place in the pecking order.
Full Centralization
However, as time goes on, various competing Secret Societies begin to realize that they need a standardized language with which they can converse, make deals, and negotiate in — also kept away from the Serfdom and any uncooperative King.
You see what happened?
How we came full circle?
As we “rabble” naturally work towards centralizing language the need for the “bad guys” to create similarly centralized methods within their own tier of communication also arise.
Among themselves, in this “Dark Age” where the common man is unaware of the occult doings of their taskmasters, they centralize their own form of language and communication with which they sign all sorts of contracts, treatise, ceasefires, and agreements with one another.
Today, those of us in the conspiracy circles refer to this as “Comms.”
The first to centralize the languages of all the various societies were the Rosicrucians. Sir Francis Bacon also had a major hand to play in that, but that’s for another post.
Over time, their adherents brought together the unique “dialects” of Masonry, the Illuminati, Vedism, Babylonia, etc. under one collective linguistic “ruleset” and chose English as the operative language to check against, should a message be otherwise unclear. The benefit of using a symbolic, acroamatic cryptographic system is that it can be effectively transcribed no matter the party’s native language. It is universal, in that knowing the nature of something, such as a sheep in relation to a wolf, is well understood no matter your land of origin.
A sheep is a sheep is a sheep. A wolf is a wolf is a wolf.
They have a very specific relationship with one another.
The clock is ticking, however…
Just as the serfdom once acquired access to the world of the written word, soon, too, shall we become privy to the nature of this “Comms” language that has found itself spread far and wide among every publication under the sun. In this Cabal’s haste to acquire power and wealth, they’ve unwittingly poised the Comms system to be discovered by the common man.
Effectively, as more merchants and aristocrats rose to power by means of the written word, eventually the same will occur now, except with Comms.
Where once it was ideal for all the populations of the nation to speak, read, and write in the same tongue for the benefit and prosperity of the nation, now the same has become necessary for any aspiring merchant or aristocrat to learn cryptographic systems. The gatekeeping reaches its limits, and eventually the “rabble,” seeing no alternative for prosperous survival, break through.
It’s the same pattern, just on a different, fractal, level.
It’s at a breaking point.
Iniquity is so widespread that now only those who are “in the know” can accumulate wealth at all. So…
Comms awareness is about to go mainstream…
It is inevitable.
Fractal
Foreseeably, eventually the serfdom will once again find themselves able to converse in the “tongue of the gods” just as well as the aristocracy, simply as a necessary requirement for survival. This would move the mercantile aristocracy, who now call themselves the “technocracy”, to once again devise alternative means of communication.
How many times will the same trick work, I wonder?
Will it be endless?
Again and again and again…
Or will we discover the plot in one generative cycle of exclusionary linguistic development?
Maybe we have one more cycle in us before it becomes too obvious, like with election fraud?
When will we hit a collective understanding of the pattern?
Regardless of the when, once the serfdom and the King alike become privy to this never-ending cycle of one-up-man-ship, that’s when we hit the fabled “Age of Aquarius” where clandestine and subversive elements can no longer devise a cunning enough system to subvert the common good. At least, not in a reasonable time-frame to avoid being found out before it can take hold in clandestine circles.
Lying, deceit, schemes will no longer be able to form without a paper trail the People can read.
That’s when the day of the Conmen ends.
I do hope that the day is now; that we are currently about to enter that new age where no man can successfully defraud or disenfranchise another by means of this linguistic “magic” predicated upon the enforced ignorance of the common man — who is far too busy merely surviving to learn how the powers that be speak to one another in secret.
Time will tell.
I will say, there’s plenty of evidence to suggest that the Comms system will burst the dam on its own accord. They’ve stressed it too much, putting too much faith in the willful ignorance of those who just want to be left alone…
We all have our limits…
If not eliminate them entirely it will at least put some evolutionary pressure on these systems. There was a Love Death + Robots episode which I believe was referring to exactly this, though I can't remember which. Possibly Mason's Rats.
